Nearly 160 Puerto Rican artisans will come together the weekend of July 3 and 4, 2022 to celebrate the forty-second National Hammock Festival in San Sebastian.

Since its inception in 1981, the purpose of the festival has been to highlight the work of the hammock makers in the Robles neighborhood of San Sebastián, the cradle of this type of craft. However, over time, they opened their doors to other artisans who find in this event a way to make their art known.

Carnaval de Ponceño 2022 (Ponce, PR)

The city of Ponce in southern Puerto Rico is home to the annual Ponce Carnival (Carnaval Ponceño). The colorful carnival that started in 1858 lasts for a whole week. It come to an end on the day before Ash Wednesday (February or March different dates). The Carnival (Carnaval de Ponce or Carnaval Ponceño, in Spanish) is an annual week-long celebration. There are parades with wildly decorated floats, culture, lots of music, loads of spectators and FUN!

If you’ve never been, the Carnival is simiiar to that of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It’s derived from the old world tradition of a final celebration before the beginning of Lent. But over time, it has transformed into a 4 day long party ending with a grand Fiesta de Pueblo at the Placita 65 de Infantería on March 1st.

Resistencia Y Liberta!

Every July, the town of Loiza holds the Festival de Santiago Apóstol (Festival of Saint James, the Apostle). The celebration that lasts several days occurs around the St. James Feast on July 25th. The unique blend of African and Spanish Catholic traditions makes this festival one-of-a-kind. Festival de Bomba Puertorriqueña Libre Soberao (Salinas, PR)

Organized by the Cunyabe Cultural Center in Salinas, the Festival de Bomba Puertorriqueña Libre Soberao commemorates through music Puerto Rico's abolishment of slavery. This festival brings together bomba academies from all over the island to celebrate our island's African ancestry and one of its most enduring legacies— music and dance. An Afro-Caribbean rhythm, bomba, is almost like a duel between two or more drums and a dancer who through steps known as piquetes shapes the rhythmic discourse being played
