Solstice in Times Square: International Yoga Day

I discovered Bikram yoga back in 2012 when trying different methods to spice up my workout routine and I've been completely hooked ever since! I'm officially obsessed with all things YOGA. 15 years ago, a brilliant initiative called "Solstice in Times Square" was launched. It's an annual event that takes place in Times Square, wherein (probably well over 5,000 +) yogi's come together to practice as a collective to celebrate the summer solstice (the longest day of the year).

The event is all day and literally happens smack in the middle of Times Square, it's really quite a sight to behold and even moreso to be in and therefore FEEL. I mean, the energy and positivity that was radiating from each participant was so apparent. Even if you're not a particularly "feeling" centric person, the upliftment and aesthetic marvelousness was captivating.

In many cultures, the summer solstice or the welcoming of the summer season has been celebrated and has served as an indicator of the renewal of the mind, the body and the spirit. An energizer, an activation for creative expression and a rebirth.

QUEENS INTERNATIONAL NIGHT MARKET

Spring has finally arrived. Thank goodness. Despite the fact that the weather has not yet caught up with the season (at least here in NYC), warm weather is always accompanied with the opportunity to get outdoors. I love Spring and Summer in NYC because of its pop-up art shows, street festivals, food and fare. It always feels like such a treat to stumble across an unexpected street fair in Manhattan. With that, I am pleased to mention that Lena del Sol Photography & Wall Decor  will be among the 50+ vendors at the first annual Queens International Night Market on Saturday April 25th, 2015 from 6pm to midnight. Night markets are popular in other parts of the world, however they have yet to make it to NYC — that is, until tomorrow.

LIC ARTS OPEN MAY 13-17, 2015

I’ve been selected to participate in the 2015 LIC Arts Open Exhibit on May 13th-17th, 2015 in Long Island City, Queens! I’m so excited and humbled for this opportunity. LIC Arts Open is in its 5th year of being Queens’ largest arts festival –it brings together artists, residents,  businesses, tourists, local government, art enthusiasts and collectors to help foster Long Island City’s cultural and economic development. The festival has done much to raise the profile of Long Island City, home to one of the largest and most diverse arts communities in New York City. To top it off, I’ll be taking over their Instagram on Sunday April 19, 2015. Follow us both for updates on the event and to learn more about this awesome borough of mine — Queens, NYC! Support the arts by following along on Instagram at @LICArtsOpen. I'll post all sorts of goodies relating to the exhibit on my INSTAGRAM.
